If you’re new to Rainbow Snippets, it’s a Facebook group where authors of LGBTQ fiction post a six-sentence snippet of a WIP, a published story, or a recommendation, every weekend. You can see all the snippets here.
Here we go! A new thing! I’m so nervous!
Aaron’s suddenly realizing that he might have overstepped his boundaries.
“I understand if you don’t want to stay.”
The guy’s face fell. “Do—do you want me to go?”
“No! No, I didn’t mean…” Aaron hung his head and slumped down onto the couch, clutching the bottle in front of him like it could shield him from more embarrassment. “I didn’t ask you back here for—It’s just that…”
Slowly, the guy moved forward and sat down next to him. Not so close that they were touching but close enough. “If I thought for one minute that was the only reason you asked me to stay, I would have said no.” Aaron felt like the weight of disappointment that came with those words might crush him, until the guy added gently, “But I kinda hoped it might be part of the reason.”
Love it! The confusion and uncertainty and an absolutely gorgeous last line…
Very, very sweet!
Aw, very sweet at the end there.
I love the awkwardness and the sweet ending.
