Today’s snippet…from No Regrets, a novella coming in the next few weeks.
He wanted to refute it, deny everything that Lucas was saying. But he couldn’t, so he sat there like an idiot with Lucas looking at him with such a sweet, desperate expression, until Lucas made a small hurt noise and started to get up to leave.
Ryan did the only thing he could think of to stop him. He grabbed Lucas’s arm and yanked him back down into the seat. He put his hand flat on Lucas’s chest, patting gently as he tried to get his words out. “I–I’m not the person you think I am. I’m not perfect.”
“I never thought you were.”
“I don’t want to hurt you. Don’t want to let you down.” He looked up to find Lucas smiling in pity and confusion. Ryan thought that maybe he should kiss him, but instead, he said, “I’m so tired. Will you stay with me? Just to sleep. Talk this over when the sun’s up?”
