Sunday already? Time flies when you’re…what have I been doing?…
Well, I suppose this week has mostly been about trying to get The Arrangement to the editor, which was successful. I went through all the feedback from the beta readers (superstars! All of them!) which was, as always, so helpful but also makes me cringe at all the “why didn’t I see that?” moments. I did almost kill my voice reading the whole thing aloud over two days. A good example of, just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. But it’s done now. I just have to get all the other bits and bobs finished like the full cover, formatting, promo, etc, etc. Y’know…the fun stuff.
In addition, I worked a bit more on the Christmas story. It’s coming together and I think it’ll be okay. It should be done by the end of next week…if I can get all the other stuff done in good time. I have a bunch of admin that can’t wait and some editing to do on the Super Secret Project, so I need to be super efficient (I can hear everyone who knows me laughing their butts off right now).
Something I am going to be trying, which I hope will help with my focus, is a gamified to-do list called Habitica. It’s just like most other to-do or habit apps but with this one you get XP for completing tasks and leveling up gives you a false sense of achievement coz you can earn the ability to buy a dragon and whatnot. Might sound daft but for those of us with no intrinsic motivation, buying an 8-bit dragon is worth getting up for. I figured as I’ve been really enjoying getting points and stuff with my Wizards Unite Potterverse game, it might be worth applying the same principals to real-life. And of course, there’s an app for that 🙂 I’ll keep you posted on how it goes.
The Word Dragon is fine, if a little weepy the last few days. It’s been hot (like hot hot) so she’s been in a grump and has no qualms about letting me know. Not because she hates the heat, but because I wouldn’t let her go out and lay in the sun when it was 30?C and she would have burnt her paws off on the pavement. There’s just no pleasing some people.
That’s about it. I’ll be posting my monthly word count over on Instagram on Thursday or Friday next week…can’t believe it’s August already! It’s Pride Week here in Brighton, so there will be many rainbows to be had. I usually go to the parade but I might have to give it a miss this year. I’ll see.
Don’t forget that you can get up to date news and information on my Facebook Readers’ group, Alex’s Aficionados or sign up for the newsletter.
Hope you have a wonderful week!
